FEBRUARY 2021 HALF-TERM NEWSLETTER

 

 

Welcome to the regular newsletter for The Amelia, keeping you up to date on all our upcoming events and bringing you all the latest news and updates from the project.

 

Set to open in spring 2022, The Amelia will bring together books, objects, documents, photographs, and visual art, housed in a vibrant and revitalised building. The building will be named after the suffragist and Tunbridge Wells resident Amelia Scott. Read on to find out the latest on our news and events, or browse our website for more information about current services, and the services of our partners.

 

The February newsletter focuses on giving you half term inspiration for fun and free activities for all to do during the national lockdown.

WHY NOT TRY AN ONLINE COURSE WITH KENT ADULT EDUCATION?

 

 

Why not learn online with Kent Adult Education in real time from specialist tutors. Find a hobby, learn a skill, or try something new in 2021. To find out more, please visit the online course list on the KAE website. In accordance with lockdown measures, centres are currently closed.

KEEP BUSY READING WITH KENT LIBRARIES

 

 

Despite library buildings being closed, you can access books digitally or pre-order your books through the Select and Collect service. Find out more about these services and stay up-to-date or call 03000 41 31 31.

 

Last chance to join The Winter Mini Challenge as it has been extended until Friday 19th February. Visit the website to join the challenge.

HALF TERM FUN FOR THE FAMILY WITH THE AMELIA TEAM

 

 

(15th February – 17th February)

 

Discovery Days returns in a digital format this February Half Term. Join Squeakin the teddy bear who will be your guide to some of the toys in the collection of The Amelia. Download the ‘Have a go at home’ activity sheet to get inspired to make your own versions of the toys featured in the video. Suitable for all the family!

HALF TERM TO-DOS IN TUNBRIDGE WELLS FROM THE TOURIST INFORMATION CENTRE

 

 

For those local to the area, Tourist Information have created a list of ideas for getting out in the fresh air as well as for the rainy days in! Visit their website for inspiration and the full list of things to do in Tunbridge Wells.

 

Look out for the new Visit Tunbridge Wells website which will launch in March 2021.

JOIN AN EVENING TALK WITH THE FRIENDS

 

 

On Thursday 25th February, Ruth Chambers from The Friends will be presenting her research on Toys from the Georgian Age which includes collection pieces from the museum. The research has also been featured in a national magazine, The British Association of Friends of Museums. The talk will be held via Zoom at 6pm. Get in touch with The Friends through their Facebook page for more information on how to join

LATEST BUILDING UPDATE

Despite the national lockdown and snow, The Amelia project is moving forward. On site the Archive building roof is now watertight and window frames are being fitted. Inside the Archive building, the mechanical and electrical installation continues. WDI are progressing with more internal works including plastering and re-routing ductwork. Restoration of timber doors in the Adult Education building has also commenced this month.
