Sprange’s World – A window into Georgian Tunbridge Wells: A Talk by Dr Ian Beavis
Jasper Sprange (1746-1823) was a printer and publisher, based on the Pantiles, whose clients included the makers of Tunbridge ware.
His work provides a remarkable window into everyday life in late Georgian Tunbridge Wells, covering a wide range of topics including crime and anti-social behaviour, civil defence, trade and industry, medical services, and public entertainments.
Sprange is also revealed as a community leader, helping to develop the town's tourist industry, organising public works, and promoting charity to the poor.
