The Amelia Scott Launches New Young Consultants Scheme

The Amelia Scott is excited to announce the launch of our new Young Consultants Scheme, which started in January with students from Mount College and has recently expanded to include The Oaks Specialist College in Tonbridge. This initiative focuses on developing work skills for young people and gathering valuable feedback to improve the accessibility of our building and programs.

The Oaks College, a specialist institution for 18-25-year-olds with learning difficulties, shares a vision of ensuring that every learner makes clear progress, feels respected and valued, and is confident in contributing fully to society. On leaving The Oaks, students are prepared to gain employment, further training, or meaningful volunteer roles.

As part of the Young Consultants Scheme, 10 students from The Oaks visited The Amelia Scott to share their expert opinions and knowledge. Their visit included an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of our stores and archives, where they provided insightful feedback on various projects. They interviewed staff about their roles and gave valuable advice on sensory backpacks and their contents. Additionally, they helped us develop methods for visitor feedback in upcoming exhibitions and co-produced a game for an upcoming display.

One enthusiastic student expressed interest in returning for a work experience placement, marking the beginning of a continued relationship with The Oaks for future work placements and involving more young consultants.
