MY LOCKDOWN COMPANION – AN ONLINE FESTIVAL RELATING YOUNG PEOPLE’S EXPERIENCES OF LIVING THROUGH THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC

My Lockdown Companion is a stop-motion film project that will showcase a collection of short stories narrated by young people from Tunbridge Wells about their personal account of what or who got them through the Covid 19 pandemic. The festival will celebrate the imagination, resilience, and creativity of these young people as they coped with the hardships of lockdown and having their freedom taken away.
The animations will be showcased in the TW Social online Film Festival coming October 2021!

BRONZE ARTS AWARD INTENSIVE

The Culture Team’s 5-day Bronze Arts Award intensive course ran from 9-13 August at the TN2 Centre in Sherwood. This course was offered free to young people aged 9-18 living in the Sherwood area.

Participants gained a QTSF Level 3 qualification from participating in the week of activities. The programme included a Puppetry Workshop, a Special Effects Make Up workshop with professional Makeup Artist Kate Griffiths, a technical tour and technical theatre workshop at the Assembly Hall Theatre, a Stop Motion Animation workshop, a live screening of the Broadway musical ‘Newsies’, a small research project on an artist who has inspired them and why, as well as sharing an arts skill with the group. Their work was recorded in an Arts Award workbook. It was an excellent week with a very motivated group of young people.

This project was an extension of the pre-covid Sherwood Youth Drama group, which ran weekly sessions at the TN2 Centre. Both initiatives were funded by the Gatwick Fund through the Kent Community Foundation. We now hope to be able to offer the Arts Awards programme every year.
