KS1 – Discovering the Story of Tunbridge Wells


Topic: History, Science and English

Duration: 60 mins

In this session, pupils explore significant moments in the story of our local area through object handling and drama. Pupils will be surprised to learn that Kent was once covered in dense forest but by exploring artefacts from The Amelia’s collection they will discover how and why a town grew up here. Key players in the story are the iron rich rocks of the High Weald, Lord North and the chalybeate spring, and Princess Victoria!

Cost: 60 min session: £75 for 30 children

KS2 – Exploring the Story of Tunbridge Wells


Topic: History, Science and English

Duration: 60 mins

In this session, pupils are set the challenge of defending the Royal status of Tunbridge Wells!

They explore artefacts from The Amelia’s collection which draw out significant elements of our local history, including the High Wealden iron industry, the growth of the town around the chalybeate spring and important visitors to our town who range from royalty to hop pickers! Object handling and drama are used to bring the stories to life and equip pupils to draw their own conclusions about the significance of our local story.
