The Role of Alewives in Brewing - Exhibition by Victoria Howard - Amelia

Kent-based artist Victoria Howard delves into the history of brewing through the lens of medieval alewives.

Victoria Howard is a textile artist who lives and works in Kent. Her research into women, who once dominated beer brewing, has inspired a collection of imagined garments and artworks. This exhibition blends historical elements with contemporary art, highlighting the significant role alewives played in brewing. This project was born from discussions between Victoria Howard and Robin Wright, Proprietor of Pig & Porter Brewing Company and has led to Victoria becoming Artist in Residence for the Brewery.
