SUMMARY:Home Education at The Amelia - Primary
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Amelia for our monthly learning sessions open to home educated children across the borough. \nOur learning sessions are linked to The Amelia’s collections\, are based on enquiry-led learning and are rooted in the National Curriculum. Sessions provide unique opportunities for object-handling and inspiring activities to guide children and their families as they explore our galleries. \nDuration: Standard sessions last 60 mins \nWe aim to provide a fully inclusive service for all our young visitors. Please let us know if there are any SPLD/ or accessibility needs we should be aware of so that we can help support all participants to engage with the session. \nPlease note\, children must be accompanied by their parent/carers and remain their responsibility at all times. \nMonthly themes: \n8 September – Archaeology Adventure\nJoin us for a special exhibition-linked session. The group will start with an introduction to archaeology in the Learning Room\, with the chance to explore artefacts and objects hands-on. The session will conclude in Archaeology Adventure\, our current temporary exhibition. \n13 October – The Story of the Wells – Local History\nIn this session\, the group will discover how and why our town came into existence. Using artefacts to piece together its story from forest\, to popular health resort\, to holiday destination for a princess\, the group will also find out why children from the East End of London would spend their summer holidays here 100 years ago! \n10 November – Dinosaurs and Fossils\nIn this session\, the group are cast as palaeontologists and explore clues about what the world was like millions of years ago. They have the chance to handle a range of fossils from The Amelia’s Collection to investigate how they were made and what they tell us about the past. \n8 December – Generations of Joy\nThis session will take place off-site and provide an enriching opportunity for inter-generational engagement\, with children and care-home residents taking part in Christmas-themed activities together. \n\nContact us to find out more before booking
