SUMMARY:Activist Avenue
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the history of Tunbridge Wells in a way you’ve never seen before… \nFrom the minds of the Young Producers comes a new trail full of untold stories – be the first to uncover the forgotten histories of radicals like Olive Walton\, Jasper Sprange and Amelia Scott herself. \nAcross the Amelia\, you will travel through the past and investigate the life of each pioneer from Tunbridge Wells’ history. Interact with their stories further by reading about their experiences and completing fun activities! Collect all the stamps along the way in your “Passport Through Time” and perhaps they will leave you a special reward… \nAn experience for all ages. \nThis project is part of our Unlocking Collections Programme\, supported using public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

SUMMARY:The Kent Speak Their Name Memorial Quilt
DESCRIPTION:The Kent Speak Their Name Suicide Memorial Quilt can be seen in The Workroom from 8th October to 7th November during opening hours and when the room is not occupied. \nPlease drop in to take a look and time to reflect. There is a book for messages which you are welcome to use. \nAbout the Project \nSTAK.life CIC started the Kent Speak Their Name Suicide Memorial Quilt project in February 2025. Sixty Six squares were made by people across Kent\, who had lost a loved one to Suicide. They were sewn into a memorial quilt. The quilt was unveiled at The Baton of Hope Event on Monday 22nd September at Dreamland. The quilt is now on tour around Kent. \nEach square stitched painted or embroidered with love honours a life ended too soon. Together they form a powerful tapestry of remembrance ensuring every name is spoken and every story is seen. \nMore than a memorial the quilt is acall to action. By sharing it across Kent we hightlight the deep impact suicide has on families\, friends\, and communities. Offering a chance for reflection healing and connection\, reminding us that behind every square is a life\, a loss and a legacy. \nThe quilt stand not only in memory but also in hope\, in open conversations\, greater awareness and support for those who need it most.

SUMMARY:Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden
DESCRIPTION:A major print retrospective of one of Britain’s most celebrated artists \nExperience Howard Hodgkin's vivid world of colour in this exhibition of prints spanning five decades. \nHoward Hodgkin: In a Public Garden brings together more than thirty richly coloured prints by one of Britain's most distinctive modern artists.  \nSpanning five decades\, from 1966 to 2016\, the exhibition offers an engaging introduction to Hodgkin's printmaking. It shows how he used colour\, shape and texture to turn memories\, places and personal encounters into vivid visual experiences.  \nHodgkin is best known as a painter\, but he was also one of Britain's most important printmakers. Born in London in 1932\, he developed a language of bold marks\, layered surfaces and intense colour. Many of the prints in this exhibition are hand-coloured\, giving them a physical presence and emotional depth that reward close looking.  \nThe works range from lyrical city scenes to images inspired by Hodgkin's long connection with India\, as well as prints created for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Although they can appear spontaneous\, they were often made through a slow and highly considered process. Hodgkin experimented with techniques including etching and aquatint\, combining them with hand-painting to create images of remarkable richness.  \nHodgkin's significance was recognised internationally during his lifetime. He won the Turner Prize in 1985\, represented Britain at the Venice Biennale\, and his work has been shown in major museums including Tate Britain\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Reina Sofía in Madrid. Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden invites visitors to experience an artist whose colour\, feeling and imagination continue to resonate today.  \nHoward Hodgkin: In a Public Garden\, a Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Touring Exhibition.  \nImage credit: Howard Hodgkin\, Palm and Window 1990-1991 (detail) – © 2026 The Estate of Howard Hodgkin. SUMMARY:Take a Closer Look: Howard Hodgkin
DESCRIPTION:Join a Curator from The Amelia for a short guided tour of the current temporary exhibition Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden. Whether you already know the works of Howard Hodgkin\, or are curious to learn more\, join us to take a closer look. \nThis autumn\, The Amelia Scott presents Howard Hodgkin: In a Public Garden\, a critically acclaimed exhibition bringing together more than 30 prints spanning five decades of the artist’s career\, from 1966 to 2016. \nOriginally developed by Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery\, this landmark exhibition showcases the work of Howard Hodgkin\, whose vivid use of colour\, expressive brushwork and deeply personal approach to abstraction made him one of Britain’s most distinctive post-war artists. \nFeaturing bold\, gestural compositions that explore memory\, emotion and place\, the exhibition immerses visitors in Hodgkin’s unique visual world. The selected prints reveal the important role printmaking played throughout his practice and demonstrate his extraordinary ability to transform fleeting experiences into powerful images. \nHoward Hodgkin: In a Public Garden\, a Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Touring Exhibition.  \nImage credit: Howard Hodgkin\, Palm and Window 1990-1991 (detail) – © 2026 The Estate of Howard Hodgkin.
